Each year a committee of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) identifies the best of the best in children's books. "Notable" books are important, distinguished, outstanding. They exhibit especially commendable quality, venturesome creativity, and encourage children's interests in exemplary ways. (The menu on the left includes a link to Past Notable Children's Book lists.)

A project of Teaching for Change, Social Justice Books identifies and promotes the best multicultural and social justice children’s books, as well as articles and books for educators.

These summer reading lists have been compiled by teachers, librarians, and curriculum specialists, and they include fiction, folklore, history, poetry, biographies, drama, and much more.
