Library Instruction
Librarians offer instruction on a variety of information literacy topics:
Our goal is to customize instruction to address your students' needs. Most sessions run the entire class period, but we can also provide pop-in demonstrations or two to three mini-sessions for multi-part assignments.
Timing:
Instruction is most effective when delivered at point of need, after students have been given the assignment and have begun thinking about their topic. Please send requests at least two weeks in advance and include your assignment and instructional goals.
Location:
In some cases, it may be possible to conduct library instruction in your classroom, but most sessions take place in either the computer lab on the lower level of the library or one of the ACEN computer labs. Your College liaison will request the space, and once it is reserved, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
Instructors:
Please email your College liaison to request instruction. College liaison contact information is available in the tabs across the very top of this guide.
Course Research Guides
Librarians are happy to create resource guides for any of your courses that require research. Customized guides may include:
See your College's tab for examples of existing course guides. If you would like to request
a customized guide, please contact your College liaison.
Research Consultations
If your students are working on a project that lends itself to more in-depth research, or if you have a struggling student that just doesn't know where to begin, librarians are available to assist students one-on-one or in small groups by appointment.
Students can set up an appointment by contacting the College liaison that best aligns with your course. See the College tabs along the very top of this guide for contact information.
Librarians are also available to assist with faculty research projects. Contact your College liaison to set up an appointment.
Faculty Borrowing Privileges
A valid Manchester University ID is required to borrow materials from the library. There is no limit to the number of books that can be borrowed and faculty members will automatically be given a due date that corresponds with the end of the academic year. There are no fines for overdue books, but if a book is lost, there will be replacement charges.
To view what you currently have checked out, renew any overdue materials, or check on the status of Interlibrary Loan requests, visit your account page here. When logging in to your library account, your username is case-sensitive, so remember to capitalize your initials.
Interlibrary Loan services are available to all members of the Manchester University community at no charge. Requests can be placed directly through the catalog or databases, or you can use our online forms.

Course Reserves
Class-related materials can be put on reserve at the main desk of the library. Reserve items are available to all students for 2 hours at a time. If you require a longer reserve time, please let us know. We accept any form of physical materials, but at this time, we do not offer reserve services for digital items. Reserve materials can be personal copies or items from the library's collection.
